Medford Man Sentenced for Attempting to Meet An Underage Girl
Thursday, August 26th, 2021 -- 8:07 AM
A Medford man was sentenced for falling for a sting operation targeting child sex predators in Marathon County Court.
Back in 2018, an officer was posing as a 15-year-old girl on Facebook when he began communicating with Michael Mayotte. Mayotte said he was willing to travel to the girl’s home and outlined the explicit sexual acts he wanted to do with her.
Mayotte was arrested after he arrived in Wausau and purchased condoms at a gas station. Police arrested him as he was walking to the address where he was planning to meet the girl.
At the beginning of August, Mayotte was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, exposing genitals to a child and bail jumping. Another charge was dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to three years in prison and two years of extended supervision.
