(Wisconsin Ag Connection) After a very wet week throughout the Badger State in early August, farmers had nearly five full days suitable for fieldwork last week.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service released its latest crop/progress summary on Monday, where field reporters said conditions are still well below average despite the recent precipitation.

Topsoil moisture condition levels are rated seven percent very short, 13 percent short, 67 percent adequate and 13 percent surplus. As of Sunday, the corn crop was 61 percent in the dough stage, one day ahead of last year and nearly a week better than the five-year average.

The condition of the corn crop also improved to 80 percent good to excellent, which is three percentage points above last week. Eighty-three percent of the soybeans were setting pods statewide, with one respondent seeing a few soybean fields beginning to color.

Soybean conditions are now at 77 percent good to excellent, also three percentage points better than a week earlier. The oat harvest is week ahead of schedule at 54 percent complete.

Farmers also have 96 percent of the winter wheat off the fields. And the third cutting of alfalfa hay is 74 percent complete, with fourth crop started in some areas.
