Wisconsin's Census Numbers Show Modest Growth and More Diversity

Friday, August 13th, 2021 -- 8:00 AM

(Bob Hague, WRN) The Census story for Wisconsin is one of modest growth and more diversity.

New U.S. Census data shows Wisconsin's racial diversity has grown over a decade that saw the number of White Americans drop for the first time since 1790. Wisconsin's population grew 3-pont-6 percent since 2010 to 5-9 million people.

That's less than the U.S. growth of 7-point-4 percent and less than half the rate of neighboring Minnesota. More than a third of Wisconsin's modest growth was in and around Madison.

Dane County grew by 15 percent, adding more than 73,000 people. Milwaukee, on the other hand lost 17-thousand residents. It's population of just over 577-thousand is the lowest since 1930.
