The Clark County Sheriff’s Department is wishing Deputy Brian Rennie well in his next adventure, retirement.
Deputy Rennie retired from the Sheriff's Office on July 29th, after 28 years of service. Deputy Rennie served in many departments, such as the Wausau Police Department, Colby-Abbotsford Police Department, Marathon County Sheriff's Office, and Athens Police Department.
But he chose to start his career with the Clark County Sheriff's Office, and end his career there. For that, the Clark County Sheriff’s Department is grateful, as he brought a vast amount of knowledge and experience that served the citizens of Clark County.
Rennie began his career as a jail/communications deputy. Back then, they took care of all the dispatching and working at the jail at the same time. Rennie said it was a tough choice to turn in his retirement paperwork as he’s done it all his life.
He’s really enjoyed his career and they are all happy memories. He said his mother had a saying, 'God created me for this job. He made me big enough, strong enough, smart enough, and fair enough.'
One of Deputy Rennie’s most memorable moments was a case he won before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He stated, “I've been involved in multiple officer involved shooting events, one of the largest cocaine drug busts in the State of Wisconsin, and I worked as a K9 Deputy for 19 years.
Between my two K9s, we had a total of 9 deployments for lost children or lost dementia patients, who we all safely recovered. I also made national news with the arrest of two people driving one vehicle at the same time, which was apparently the first in the nation."
Deputy Rennie had these words of advice for anyone starting a career in law enforcement, “The only way that you're going to learn is to have someone with experience communicate with you, and take what they have to say as advice, and not as criticism. Learn from the people that have gone through the bad things, learn from the people that have made it home safe, and why it's important to pay attention to the people that you deal with, and never underestimate them.”
In his retirement he plans to spend time with his wife.
