Medford Man Arrested After Sting Targeting Child Sex Predators

A Medford man arrested after falling for a sting operation targeting child sex predators appeared in Marathon County Court.

Back in September of 2018, an officer was posing as a 15-year-old girl on Facebook when he began communicating with Michael Mayotte. Mayotte said he was willing to travel to the girl’s home and outlined the explicit sexual acts he wanted to do with her. Mayotte was arrested after he arrived in Wausau and purchased condoms at a gas station. Police arrested him as he was walking to the address where he was planning to meet the girl.

Mayotte was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, exposing an intimate area to a child and bail jumping.  Another charge was dismissed and read in.  He was sentenced to 3 years in state prison and 2 years of extended supervision.
