(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Temperatures across the state were slightly above normal during the past week, but rainfall varied considerably.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture's latest crop report. The weekly summary noted that some eastern locations received no rainfall, while heavy but spotty rainfall in the west and northwest dropped up to five inches of precipitation.

Topsoil moisture conditions were rated eight percent very short, 23 percent short, 64 percent adequate and five percent surplus. As of Sunday, about 86 percent of the corn crop was silking, three days ahead of last year and more than a week better than average.

Twenty-three percent of the crop is in the dough stage, which is also ahead of normal. The statewide corn condition was rated 75 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week.

Soybeans are reported to be 88 percent blooming. That's the same as last year, but seven days ahead of the five-year average. About 61 percent of the beans are now setting pods. The crop is also unchanged from a week earlier at 72 percent good to excellent.

With nearly all the oats coloring, farmers have 28 percent of the crop off the fields already, one day behind the 2020 season, but one day ahead of average. The winter wheat harvest is about 80 percent harvested.

And farmers are about the finish their second crop hay harvest, with 45 percent of third crop now baled or chopped. That's just a few days ahead of normal for August 1.
