SHAUN RUDY IN COURT
Friday, December 2nd, 2005 -- 3:23 PM
The husband of a missing Thorp woman was in Clark County Circuit Court Thursday afternoon. Shaun Rudy made his initial appearance on charges he was in possession of a firearm as a felon and he possessed drug paraphernalia ? specifically, a marijuana or meth pipe. The charges stem from a routine traffic stop that occurred in the early morning hours of November 18th. According to the criminal complaint, a Thorp police officer pulled Rudy?s vehicle over because the back window was covered in snow.Clark County Sheriff?s Department officials say it was a ?coincidence? Mr. Rudy was arrested just four days after he reported his wife, Christine, missing. The 21-year-old who is six-months pregnant, has not been seen or heard from since November 12th. Shaun Rudy has told authorities that he left his wife on a rural Clark County road after the two became involved in an argument. Officials say he is not a suspect in her disappearance and there is no evidence of foul play.
During his hearing, Rudy appeared in an orange jumpsuit with both his hands and legs shackled. No friends or family were in the courtroom as Judge Jon Counsell scheduled a preliminary hearing for next Wednesday, December 7th.
Rudy?s public defender, William Poss, told the court he filed a motion to dismiss the charges.
Rudy has been held on the charges since his arrest on November 18th. A $1,000 cash bond has been set, and he is also on probation hold.
