(Bob Hague, WRN) The word on the coronavirus pandemic in Wisconsin remains the same, it's not over yet.
Deputy Health Services Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk says it's still about stopping the spread. "Stopping the spread means saving lives." Van Dijk says it's crucial to realize that new COVID cases can be prevented.
"Every COVD-19 death is now a preventable death. Every COVID-19 hospitalization is preventable. And we prevent these deaths and hospitalizations by getting vaccinated."
Willems Van Dijk says getting vaccinated is critical. "The more people who get vaccinated, the more we stop the spread of COVID-19. And the more we stop the spread, the more we prevent more variants from developing, and the faster we move through this pandemic."
A recent uptick in coronavirus cases in Wisconsin is believed due to the more easily transmissible Delta variant. Nearly 51 percent of those eligible for the vaccine have recieved at least one dose, forty eight percent have completed the vaccine series.
