State of Wisconsin Not Implementing Mandatory COVID Vaccinations

Monday, July 12th, 2021 -- 9:01 AM

(Raymon Neuper, WRN) The State of Wisconsin will not be implementing mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations.

Now that the initial rush of people seeking the COVID-19 vaccinations has died down, state health officials want to move those vaccinations away from specialized clinics and to more regular care facilities.

Dr. Ryan Westergaard with the Department of Health Services says that helps people who are reluctant about the vaccine to get answers from their doctors.

"Getting vaccinations in primary care providers, and creating space for people to ask questions about vaccines at the places that they get care."

Dr. Westergaard says they will instead be moving more of those vaccinations outside of central clinic sites and to local medical offices.

"I'm very optimistic that we as we continue to do that, as we continue to make vaccines available in the places that people get routine medical care from the people and providers that they trust, that will continue to have a trajectory of more vaccinations."

Health officials in Milwaukee have started offering door to door vaccination services to help reach those who are unable to make the trip to get a vaccine.
