Some Schools in UW System Starting Class on 1st Day of Jewish Holiday

Wednesday, July 7th, 2021 -- 9:03 AM

(Bill Wise, WRN) -Some Jewish professors and students have already said they will miss the first day of classes at six schools in the University of Wisconsin System.

Those schools decided to move ahead with starting fall classes on September 7th or 8th, during the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah.  Classes on the Madison, La Crosse, Oshkosh, Parkside, Stout, and Superior campuses will begin the Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor.

The start of the Jewish new year comes unusually early this year, beginning on September 6th and ending September 8th.  The six campuses informed System President Tommy Thompson in a letter last month.
