Saturday, October 31st, 2020 -- 7:58 AM
-Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy responded to an email from a council member sent to the city clerk’s office regarding mask usage at city council meetings and at city hall.Mayor Murphy stated most people do not go to city hall on a daily basis and citizens can use the mail, drop off box, email or telephone. Mayor Murphy believes it is difficult to talk on the telephone with a mask on. She stated in these trying times the city employees need to get their job done and they are trying to handle it the best they can and she will not dictate the wearing of masks. Mayor Murphy stated that the Common Council is an essential part of the community. These meetings are televised and need to be heard and, again, she believes people cannot hear through a mask. She stated they are trying to do their best by spreading out as much as possible.
Library Director Janay Ziebell also provided a report on the library. She stated that the library does a lot of great things. The library averages 173 visits a week. Activities include reference questions, computer use, WIFI use, newspapers, periodicals, library cards, story hours, make and take projects, three parking lot programs, teen week read, library lovers’ week, working on hosting a harpist visit and an author visit. They are looking for someone to build them a curio cabinet to have rotating displays.
