(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The number of animal deaths related to the coronavirus at a Taylor County mink farm has gone up in recent weeks.County health officials say the number of mink infected with the virus went from nine on October 8 to more than 3,000. The National Veterinary Services Laboratories had confirmed earlier this month that the mink were dying from the SARS-CoV-2 infection, the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans.
This is the first confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection among Wisconsin's mink population. Animal health experts say there is no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading SARS-CoV-2 to humans, but people infected with the virus can spread it to them.
