Wisconsin Farmers See Above Average Temperatures for Field Work Last Week

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin farmers had 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the past week, where they stayed busy harvesting crops, planting small grains, hauling manure and tilling fields.The Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service noted in its latest crop report that temperatures were above normal last week and precipitation was minimal. Topsoil moisture levels were rated three percent very short, 14 percent short, 81 percent adequate and two percent surplus. As of Sunday, about 15 percent of the corn for grain had been combined. That's 18 days ahead of last year and three days better than the five-year average. The moisture content of corn harvested for grain was reported at 23 percent. All but four percent of the corn silage has been chopped, which is nearly a month ahead of schedule for mid-October.
The soybean harvest is now 46 percent complete, 16 days ahead of the 2019 progress and a week ahead of the average. Farmers have 79 percent of the winter wheat planted, with emergence at 55 percent. The fourth crop hay harvest is 93 percent finished. And 21 percent of the fall tillage has been completed, 17 days ahead of last year, but mostly in line with normal progress for this time of the year.
