(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -With the growing season nearly over, farmers continue to have ideal working conditions to get their crops harvested throughout Wisconsin farm fields.According to the latest crop/weather report, producers were able to make progress on their soybean harvest in southern and central Wisconsin. A few farmers started combining high moisture corn, while others began fall tillage, spreading manure and planing cover crops. Topsoil moisture levels were rated three percent very short, 13 percent short, 81 percent adequate and three percent surplus. As of Sunday, 70 percent of the corn was reported mature, which is 28 days ahead of last year and 12 days beyond the five-year average. Farmers now have 80 percent of the corn silage harvested, which is also a month better than a year earlier and 15 days ahead of normal.
All but five percent of the soybeans have colored and 79 percent of the crop has dropped leaves. Reporters estimate that 10 percent of the beans are now harvested statewide, 13 days ahead of the same time in 2019 and four days ahead of average. Winter wheat plantings are now 58 percent complete, with 28 percent of the wheat emerged. Some farmers are still working in the hay fields with 87 percent of the alfalfa crop harvested.
