PUBLIC HEARINGS HELD ON PROPOSED XCEL RATE INCREASE
Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005 -- 1:23 PM
The Public Service Commission held public hearings Wednesday afternoon on a proposed Xcel Energy rate increase request that would affect many of our listeners.Xcel supplies electricity to all of Clark County?s cities and villages and a few rural customers. They?re requesting an increase that would push electric bills up about $9.00 per month and gas bills up about $5.00 per month.
This is the first rate increase request in eight years, according to Brian Elwood, a spokesperson for the utility.
If approved by the Commission, the increase would take effect January 1st, 2006.
Elwood cites the need to build new power and gas lines to meet quickly growing energy base, especially in the Northwestern corner of Wisconsin, as the main reason for the increase.
