City of Marshfield Still Not Providing Details on Police Chief's Leave

Friday, September 18th, 2020 -- 10:12 AM

(Marshfield News Herald) -A month after city officials confirmed the Marshfield police chief was on voluntary leave for the second time in two months, the chief remains on leave and the city is offering no explanations.

Marshfield Administrator Steve Barg said Wednesday that Chief Rick Gramza remains on voluntary paid leave. Barg first confirmed Gramza's leave on Aug. 18. Barg said he could not answer any other questions about the reason for Gramza's leave or the exact date it started. Gramza, who has served as Marshfield police chief since May 15, 2014, took voluntary leave in July while an outside agency conducted a criminal investigation that showed accusations from more than a decade ago were unfounded, Barg said in a July 22 statement. Barg previously said Gramza was authorized to return to work on July 23, and his current leave is unrelated to the July leave.

Gramza found himself at the center of a controversy in August when he took part in a TikTok video with four women, including his daughter. The women were wearing bikini tops, shorts and handcuffs while they danced to the song "Go Go Go Who's Next?" by Hip Hop Harry. As the four women dance, a squad car pulls up and Gramza appears holding a set of handcuffs. The original sources removed the video, acknowledging it did not reflect the image of the city's police department, Barg said previously.
