GRANTON MAN QUESTIONED IN ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING
Friday, October 28th, 2005 -- 9:19 PM
A Granton man is being questioned in a hunting accident in Jackson County. The apparently accidental shooting occurred at around 10 a.m. on Friday morning. The Department received a report that a hunter had been shot in the Township of Garden Valley near Alma Center.
Authorities were led to the victim, 29-year-old Jason LaFratta of Waukesha.
Investigators determined LaFratta had been shot with a high-powered rifle in upper left leg. He was airlifted to Madison after a tourniquet (turn-a-kit) was applied to control excessive bleeding.
Though LaFratta was dressed completely in blaze orange, the initial investigation indicates the shooter, an un-named Granton man, believed he was shooting at a deer. Officials say the man believed to be the shooter is cooperating fully with investigators.
LaFratta was said to be in ?serious? condition as of Friday night.
The ?T-Zone? deer season began in specific management units across the State on Thursday and continues through Sunday.
