Neillsville Approves to Play Fall Sports
Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 -- 8:27 AM
In a 3-2 decision on Monday, the Neillsville School Board Approved to Play Fall Sports. There was a lengthy and heated discussion between board members regarding allowing students to practice, use of masks, playing games and limiting spectators.
Two options were presented, play in the fall or use modified winter and spring with fall wedged in between the two. The spring option can also be used if you start sports in the fall and then need to finish in the spring. The WIAA says it’s up to each individual school, you can see how the fall season is going half way through and continue, or play modified in the spring.
Schools will be working with the health department and the big question is on spectators; allow them in or allow so many in per player. The health department recommends limiting the number of spectators. Neillsville will probably see how many they can fit at social distance with masks and provide so many tickets per player for home and away. Some districts have said no limit on crowd size and others have said no fans at all. Neillsville would have the option of cancelling a game if going to a school where crowd size isn’t limited and it won’t count as a loss.
Locker room will be available for the home team but not for the visiting team.
