State cranberry production is projected to be higher than last year, but will not likely exceed the records of recent years due to government production restrictions.Wisconsin Ag Connection reports that according to the latest numbers by the U.S. Cranberry Marketing Committee, Wisconsin growers are expected to harvest about 5.56 million barrels this fall, up 16 percent from last year's crop. Tom Lochner of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association says amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. cranberry industry has seen demand for their product increase in 2020, particularly for in-home purchases. Wisconsin has been leading the country in cranberry production for the past 26 years.
The second-largest-producing state, Massachusetts, is forecast to produce 2.04 barrels. New Jersey is anticipating a crop of 500,000 barrels, and Oregon is forecast to produce 495,000 barrels in 2020. The U.S. cranberry production is forecast at 8.75 million barrels, up 15 percent from 2019. Wisconsin is expected to grow 64 percent of the national crop in 2020.
