More Info on Owen-Withee School District's Reopening Plan
Friday, July 31st, 2020 -- 9:05 AM
-The Owen-Withee School Board had a special meeting on Monday and approved the district’s reopening plan for the new school year.In regards to athletics, all high school sports will follow WIAA and Cloverbelt/Marawood Conference guidelines and recommendations for athletic seasons. The County Health department guidelines for host schools will be followed. More restrictive school board actions may be imposed during the implementation of this plan should the board deem necessary. Middle School sports for the fall season will start September 8th for volleyball and softball and August 18th for cross country. The end date of the middle school season will remain unchanged. Middle school boys basketball will begin as planned. Review of this plan will be done on an ongoing basis as necessary. For non-athletic activities, all extra-curricular activities, before and after school, will be canceled for the first quarter, which ends November 3rd. Activities that are of co-curricular, like FFA or FBLA, in nature will be allowed to meet during the school day if time is made available in the schedule by the individual building principal. Before and after school activities are not allowed unless approved by the principal. For overnight travel/field trips, because of the difficulty of socially distancing on a bus and sharing of a hotel room, no overnight travel or field trips will be allowed during the first semester of the school year.
Review of this policy will be made in January of 2021. For any outside group’s use of facilities, the use of district facilities by outside groups including, but not limited to (FFA Alumni, Jaycees, Booster Club, 4H, Archery, Bio Girls, community-based athletics, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts) will not be allowed for the first semester of the school year. Review of this policy will be made in January of 2021. For transportation, that is still under review. State law requires that students more than 2 miles from school be transported. Because of the number of students riding a bus who live within the two mile radius, they won’t be able to socially distance on the bus. They are looking at alternatives to the plan. Because of the need to reduce the number of riders on a bus to one-per seat, with 24 students, transportation will be provided to students who live 2 miles or more from the school building unless IEP requirements for transportation need to be met. Parents are strongly encouraged to have children walk or ride a bike to school or drop off/pick up before and after school.
