HWY 29 ACCIDENT UPDATE

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005 -- 3:21 PM

The Clark County Sheriff?s Department continues their investigation into Tuesday?s multiple accidents on Hwy 29, and they?re not ruling out possible charges.

The first accident took the life of 42-year-old Robert Townshend of Osseo. Townshend was a passenger in a westbound vehicle when it was struck by another vehicle entering Hwy 29. The two occupants of that vehicle, Jose Augustine Mexicano-Gonzalez and Sergio Valdes-Gimenes, believed to be from the Loyal area, were both transported to St. Joseph?s Hospital in Marshfield. They're listed in "critical" and "fair" conditions respectively. The driver of the first vehicle was said to be in ?fair? condition Tuesday.

The second accident occurred as a semi barreled into a vehicle stopped in line waiting as authorities cleaned up the first accident. The semi, driven by 31-year-old Jason Heyers of Rush City, Minnnesota, rear-ended a truck towing a trailer, that vehicle then collided with another vehicle injuring the passenger, 35-year-old Charlotte Nichols of Spencer. Nichols was treated and released from St. Joseph?s Hospital in Marshfield.
