Clark County Native Hired as Faculty at UW-Platteville's Dairy Innovation Hub

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The University of Wisconsin-Platteville has hired its first two staff members to serve as faculty under the Dairy Innovation Hub.Ryan Pralle and Joseph Sanford will be employed by the UWP School of Agriculture, where they will spend 70 percent of their time in research and the remainder teaching students about their findings. The Dairy Innovation Hub, which is being funded by the 2019-21 state budget, harnesses research and development at the campus, along with UW-Madison and UW-River Falls to keep Wisconsin's dairy industry at the global forefront in producing nutritious dairy products. A native of Clark County, Pralle was hired as an assistant professor specializing in ruminant nutrition. In this role, he will establish a research and outreach program that will support Wisconsin dairy farmers, livestock nutritionists, farm consultants and veterinarians by providing research focused on ruminant nutrition for the efficient, profitable and environmentally sustainable production of milk and other dairy products.
Sanford, who grew up in Dane County, will serve as an assistant professor specializing in agricultural and biological systems engineering with a focus in agricultural wastewater treatment. He will develop a research and outreach program that supports Wisconsin dairy farmers, farm consultants and systems engineers by providing research focused on agricultural wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse, for the environmental sustainability of dairy farms and surrounding communities in south west Wisconsin. The two new staff members will begin their duties in August.
