(Marshfield News Herald) -The parents of a Marshfield boy face felony charges after prosecutors say he showed up at school soaked in urine and with dried feces on his leg.41-year-old Wade Klante and 39-year-old Jacqueline Patrie each face a charge of neglecting a child resulting in great bodily harm. According to the criminal complaint, Klante and Patrie were living with their son and Patrie's boyfriend in Marshfield when school staff became concerned about the condition of the boy, who has spina bifida and uses a wheelchair. In November, the boy came to school wearing a wet diaper and urine-soaked clothes, according to the complaint. The same thing happened a second time in November and also in December, with the urine soaking through the seat of the boy's wheelchair. School staff also found dried feces stuck to the boy's leg. The boy had open wounds on his right hip, left heel and left ankle, according to the complaint.
School staff said they repeatedly saw the dressings on the wounds were not changed. Wood County Human Services contacted police Jan. 29, and he had extensive surgery on his right hip Feb. 6, according to the complaint. The open wound was so deep the muscle had become infected, according to documents. The boy also had a life-threatening bacterium. Klante and Patrie both are scheduled to make initial appearances on the child neglect charges Aug. 3. If convicted, they each face up to 12½ years in prison.
