-Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers granted pardons to 18 people this week including a Marshfield man.The Governor’s Pardon Advisory Board reviewed the applications before sending them to Governor Evers for final approval. “A pardon won’t fix the challenges facing our criminal justice system, but it can have a tremendous impact on a person’s life,” Evers said in the statement. “Each of these people earned a pardon by serving their sentence and making positive contributions to society.”
One person pardoned was 58-year-old Steven Johnson, a Marshfield native. When Johnson was 23, he caused a tragic car accident, which resulted in the death of his best friend. The mother of the victim has forgiven Johnson and was supportive of the pardon. Johnson was seeking the pardon before he died as he has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor.
