JURY DUTY SCAM MAY MOVE INTO OUR AREA
Wednesday, September 21st, 2005 -- 8:31 AM
The Clark County Sheriff?s Department is warning area residents to be on the lookout for a scam. Minnesota court officials say a caller has been posing as a court employee and threatening people to get personal identification information. The caller has been telling citizens that they've evaded jury duty and threatens to issue a warrant. The scam has been used elsewhere in the country to get social security numbers, credit card numbers and employer information. The Sheriff?s Department reminds people that Wisconsin Circuit Courts do not call citizens seeking personal information; these correspondences happen through the mail. If you receive such a call, you?re encouraged to hang-up, dial star-69 to find the originating phone number and call your local law enforcement agency.Feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.
