U.S. Ag Department Investing $86 Million in Rural Broadband Service

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investing $86 million in rural broadband service for 17,000 people and businesses in eight states, including Wisconsin.The Chibardun Telephone Cooperative Inc. is receiving a $10 million loan to install 328.5 miles of fiber optic lines to serve the rural areas of the Prairie Farm and Sand Creek exchanges. Investments are also being made to telecoms in Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee and Texas.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas.
