(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The time has come for six young women to compete for the honor of being named Wisconsin's 73rd Alice in Dairyland. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture is holding a virtual competition this year as a safety precaution due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It all gets underway this evening with a live question-and-answer session with all six candidates. That will be held this evening at 7:00 p.m. on the Alice in Dairyland Facebook page. They will return Saturday evening for a finale ceremony, starting at 7:30 p.m. That's where the women will give multiple speeches and hear the retiring address of outgoing ambassador Abigail Martin before finding out which one of them will replace her. "She has done a wonderful job all along, even before the COVID outbreak, but especially after," State Ag Secretary Randy Romanski said of Martin. "We are fortunate to have such a great ambassador for the industry."
Walworth County was originally scheduled to host this year's Alice Finals in May, but will instead bring the process to their area in 2021. This year's finalists are Rachel Gerbitz, Milton; Erica Helmer, Plymouth; Stephanie Hoff, Thorp; Kaitlin Konder, Glenwood City; Julia Nunes, Chippewa Falls; and Grace Schroeder, Cashton. Alice in Dairyland is a communications professional who works to educate the public about Wisconsin agriculture. Each year, a new ambassador is chosen from a group of candidates during an extensive public job interview process.
