IRONIC THEME TO GRANTON'S FALL FEST
Thursday, September 8th, 2005 -- 9:11 AM
There?s a bit of irony with the theme of this year?s Granton Fall Festival coming up this weekend. Roger Nitschke is the president of the festival?s organizing committee. He says the theme this year is ?Harvest Moon: Mardi Gras Style?."It was chosen way back in April and of course we had no idea what was going to happen," Nitschke says.
What happened was Hurricane Katrina.
Roger says the irony of the theme isn?t lost on event organizers who plan to host American Red Cross representatives during Sunday?s parade.
"The Red Cross is going to come to our parade. They're going to set up a stand for donations."
Nitschke says there are dozens of people and organizations who make the fall fest a success. Where his predecessor, Francis Steiner, was notorious for making some prettl large attendance estimates, Nitschke said he doesn?t play that game.
"The weather should be warm. It seems every year for the Fall Festival we have warm weather. It's supposed to be warm and sunny this weekend," Nitschke says.
This year?s honored citizens are Tim and Cheryl Steinbach; the honored grandparents are Chester and Betty Stillman and Dorthy Coyle. This is the 55th annual Fall Festival.
