Public Works Report and More at Neillsville City Council Meeting

-The Neillsville City Council heard the Public Works Report at their meeting on Tuesday.

Director of Public Works Dave Flynn reported on one burial at the cemetery, equipment maintenance, mowing and weed trimming in the cemetery and parks, preparations for Memorial Day at the cemetery, cleaning up planters, planting and watering flowers, mowing the residential properties, trimming and pruning trees, chipping brush, maintain street lighting, filling pot holes, hauling brush and compost, opening storm drains and street sweeping. He also reported on street construction on W. Fourth Street, Sunset Place to Ferguson Street replaced sections of curb and gutter, replaced sections of curb and gutter on W. Sixth Street, paving will be done in late June, the Street Department is short one operator due to elective surgery and they are having problems finding parts for the floating fountain in O’Neill Creek. He also stated the Sewer Plant is doing plant and lift station maintenance, the Water Department is doing meter change outs and adding radio read outs, repaired a water service leak on Hewett Street, Health Tours have been completed and twenty letters of cleanup have been sent out, had a meeting with the mobile home park on issues that need to be cleaned up and corrected, hand delivered 27 lawnmowing letters, received many fire pit complaints about smoldering fires all night instead of being put out and park bathrooms are now open.

The council also heard the various Committee Reports. For the Library Board meeting on May 19th, they heard the librarians’ reports, the front steps replacement is completed, the Library will be reopening in phases and they heard an update on the summer reading program changes. They also heard the report from the May 20th meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission. They reviewed the City’s Historic Preservation Ordinance, discussed historic preservation promotion, funding and inventory of fundraising sale items, discussed forms, updating the historic property listing, creating informational materials and annual reporting requirements and discussed possible grants and other funding for historic property improvements, facade programs and history of historic properties.
