JURY DEEMS MAN 'SEXUAL PREDATOR'; WON'T BE RELEASED AFTERALL
Monday, August 29th, 2005 -- 10:59 AM
A Clark County man has been ruled a ?sexual predator?. 36-year old Kevin Gaetz was committed as a sexually violent person based upon a jury's verdict at the conclusion of a two-day trial in Clark County before Judge Jon Counsell.According to the Department of Justice's petition, Gaetz is a Clark County resident who was convicted in 1990 of first-degree sexual assault of a child. He was convicted again in 1992, for first-degree sexual assault of a child. He was to be released on July 1, 2003, but the state petitioned to have him civilly committed as a sexual predator.
The state argued that Gaetz suffers from mental disorders, including pedophilia, which create a "likely" probability that he will engage in acts of sexual violence in the future. As a result of the verdict, Gaetz has been committed to the state Department of Health and Family Services for control, care and treatment until such time as he is no longer a sexually violent person.
He will be placed at the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center in Mauston.
