NEILLSVILLE TO APPLY FOR HOUSING MONEY
Wednesday, August 24th, 2005 -- 9:28 AM
After making it past the first step, the City of Neillsville is one of only 24 municipalities in the state eligible to apply for a Community Development Block Grant for housing improvements. The grant could total up to $650,000.
Joan Helm, executive director of the Clark County Housing Authority, says 214 municipalities applied for the grant, but Neillsville was one of only two-dozen chosen based on need. Helm says Neillsville has a ?good chance? to get at least some grant money, which would be put in a revolving loan fund.
City residents who fall within specific income-limits would be able to apply for no-interest, deferred payment loans that would be paid back upon the sale of the property. The money could not be used for superficial remodeling, but could be used to make the home more structurally sound or energy efficient.
Helm says the city may find out in early November if they've been awarded any money.
