MARATHON CO. TRAIN ACCIDENT
Wednesday, August 17th, 2005 -- 6:39 AM
A Marathon County highway worker is dead after a freight train collided with the small dump truck he was backing across some railroad tracks. The sheriff's department says 55-year-old Michael Mathwich, of Marathon, was hauling a load of rocks at the time of the crash along Hoff Road south of Spencer. The crash destroyed the truck, separating the cab, chassis and cargo into parts that landed in a ditch 20 to 100 feet from the tracks. The northbound Canadian National train collided with the truck just north of a section of Highway 13 that is closed to traffic while being expanded to four lanes.Feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.
