AREA 4H CLUB RECYCLES AT COUNTY FAIR
Monday, August 15th, 2005 -- 10:50 AM
The Lucky Clovers 4H had a busy fair. Aside from showing animals and exhibiting projects, they also began a recycling program. Claire Knodle, activities leader with the group, always wondered why the 4H didn't recycle at many events. The club received a $350 community service grant to begin the program and Superior/Onyx Waste Services donated the dumpster.
Knodle said the project was a success.
"We had a 10-yard dumpsters and it was 3/4-full of plastic containers," Knodle says.
The recycling project taught the kids some important lessons.
"There is so much happening in our world right now: global warming, natural resource issues, we're running out of things. This is something we can do to make our world better. Just our little corner," Knodle says.
"Kids need to have some global responsibilities - some local responsibilities."
Knodle says the club will be discussing whether to make this an annual event.
