Questions on Employee Pay During Coronavirus Pandemic at Neillsville City Council Meeting
Thursday, April 30th, 2020 -- 10:53 AM
-The Neillsville City Council addressed a question about city employees being paid during the coronavirus pandemic at their meeting on Tuesday.Neillsville Police Chief Jim Mankowski reported on a discussion at the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. If an employee is mandated to stay at home, because of the Coronavirus, how will the employee be paid? The City Attorney stated a part of the Neillsville Emergency Order, which was passed March 30th, includes Employee Leave that grants 80 hours of Public Health Leave to full-time employees for COVID-19 reasons during this public health emergency. The Federal government also has 80 hours as part of their Federal Coronavirus Family Act. One council member did state that if an employee receives a COVID-19 payment, they cannot also take unemployment.
Also, Chief Mankowski reported on being contacted by Hansen’s IGA about taking intoxicating beverages and beer outside for curbside delivery/pick-up during the current order as many people don’t want to enter the store. The council approved the item as long as the sales clerk is a licensed server and they verify that the person picking up/receiving delivery is 21 years of age, which, in both cases, are store policy at Hansen’s.
