-The Clark County Board of Supervisors began their meeting on Tuesday by welcoming and swearing in their new and returning members. For the most part, the board looks the same with the exception of new members Dick Lange in District 9, Dave Williams in District 19 and Kenneth Gerhardt in District 25. From there, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the board having to meet via telephone as opposed to face-to-face meetings, the board approved to suspend the Clark County Governing Body rules that relate to the nomination, election, and appointment of the chairperson, vice-chairperson, Clark County governing body membership, and body chairperson for the April 21st meeting only. So, the board did not need to follow the traditional nomination and election/appointment processes for the election/appointment of such offices/membership. The board then approved to temporarily nominate and elect Wayne Hendrickson as County Board chairperson and Joe Waichulis as County Board vice-chairperson until no later than August 20th. That means the previous office elections for chairperson and vice-chairperson would continue until at least August 20th, which is the date the August 2020 meeting is scheduled to be held per the County Board rules.
This action does not prevent the County Board from utilizing the traditional processes to elect such offices at a meeting before August 20th. Finally, a third motion was made, and approved, to temporarily nominate and elect/appoint members and chairpersons of all Clark County governing bodies as approved at the previous term until no later than August 20th, meaning the membership and chairperson election/appointment for all Clark County governing bodies as established from the 2018-2020 term will continue until at least August 20th. For those supervisory districts that have a newly elected member, this newly elected member would take the position on the governing bodies that the previously elected member held. Again, this action does not prevent the County Board from utilizing traditional processes to elect such members and chairpersons at a meeting before August 20th. Again, the County Board offices and governing body membership will continue as established in the previous term but not later than August 20th.
