Loyal School Board Update
Sunday, April 19th, 2020 -- 8:14 AM
The Loyal School Board heard about the equipment initiatives implemented at this district this year at their meeting on Thursday.Loyal’s IT Team submitted a revised strategic plan showing equipment and initiatives implemented this year as well as needs looking to the future. Interim Administrator Mark Lacke stated that Kim Bremmer won a write in campaign for Pastor Dan Zimmerman’s open board position. He stated to teachers that, “I hope all of you realize what a good board president Pastor Dan was. His caring demeanor paired with natural leadership skills guided the board smoothly; always focused on students and staff successes. The board also approved the first reading of a new Virtual Meeting Policy. While trying to prepare for any time in the future that the school board has to conduct a required meeting, but circumstances, like this pandemic, make the physical presence of members impossible, the board did pass the first reading of a new Virtual Meeting policy.
There are a lot of details because these meetings are open to the public yet access for anyone may be unwise. A few other policies about public participation and committee nature needed to be updated also. Also, after looking at the CPI of about 1.81 and the impact that COVID-19 is having on the economy, the board set 2.1% as the contract increases for next year. Contracts and Letters of ‘Intent to Hire’ will be given to staff in mid-May. For several traditional spring events, like Prom, Graduation and the Easter Parade, they would like to modify and celebrate sometime in the future when restrictions are lifted. They are looking for good creative ideas.
