(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin agriculture students and their teachers will be celebrating the year's accomplishments a bit more distantly this summer. The Wisconsin FFA Association announced on Wednesday that it's postponing the 91st State FFA Convention, originally slated for June 15-18 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, and will likely hold the event virtually or in-person at a different setting in August. State FFA Director Cheryl Zimmerman told Wisconsin Ag Connection that the decision was a difficult call to make, but said it came down to the safety and health of its members and supporters. She noted that the executive board is also looking at ways to finish the sectional speaking contests, which were interrupted when the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to close in mid-March.
With Wisconsin being one of the last states in the nation to hold it's annual convention, Zimmerman says the group is looking to other associations to see how they are coordinating their annual celebrations. Meanwhile, Kathy Hartmann-Breunig, who serves as the director of the Wisconsin Association of Agricultural Educators, said her organization is also postponing its annual Professional Development Conference. That meeting was scheduled for June 28 through July 2.
