REP. SUDER WINS DNR AUDIT
Wednesday, July 20th, 2005 -- 3:16 PM
State Representative Scott Suder ? a republican from Abbotsford - wants to know how the DNR is spending millions of dollars generated from hunting and fishing license fees. After fighting for four years, Suder's request for a comprehensive audit of the DNR's Fish and Wildlife accounts is approved by the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.Suder says the last audit was in 1998. It showed only 40-percent of that money went to hunting and fishing programs. The Abbotsford Republican says the fact is, we don't know where all the money is being spent and at a time when hunting and fishing fees are going up, the audit will figure out where that money is going.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin Wildlife Federation President, George Meyer -- also former DNR Secretary -- had said such an audit would be a waste of time and resources because the federal government is just completing an audit of those same accounts, which he believes are being managed correctly.
