NYBERG HIRED TO LEAD CCEDC

After an eight-month search, The Clark County Economic Development Corporation has a new Executive Director. Former Mainstreet Marshfield director Sheila Nyberg will fill the position emptied months ago by Richard Heath. Corporation chairman Ken Dix says there were over 30 applicants for the position, but many didn?t understand what the job entailed." They need to know what's available from (the Department of) Commerce, they need to know what people from other parts of the state are doing, they need to connect people to the proper funding, and to create the kind of concept of a business program that's going to succeed," Dix says.
The Corporation was started 15-years ago to focus on programs and initiatives to help the business climate in Clark County. While some have questioned its importance, Dix says it has been key to bringing new businesses to Clark County and helping existing businesses grow.
Dix says the Corporation was impressed with Nyberg?s enthusiasm and innovative ideas; for instance, Nyberg would like to work with the state legislature to create a countywide Mainstreet program.
"The way the Legislature has written it, Mainstreet (programs) can only be done in municipalities," Dix explains, "If we can have the legislators in our area co-author a bill that says 'cities, villages and counties', I think you'll see a countywide Mainstreet Program (in Clark County)."
Nyberg becomes the 4th executive director of the corporation. She officially began in that capacity on Tuesday.
