CLARK COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT TURNS TO E-MAIL TO FIGHT CRIME
Wednesday, June 15th, 2005 -- 1:15 PM
The Clark County Sheriff?s Department is developing a new method of getting criminal activity information out to area businesses. Detective Jeff Baumgarten currently has 27 businesses in a database and he?s looking for more. When the Sheriff?s Department has information concerning crime, they?ll e-mail it to these businesses."We're implementing a contact list for as many businesses across the county as we can," Baumgarten explains. "We can rapidly and very efficiently disperse that information with really no additional cost to the county."
For instance, the county frequently gets information on forgery cases. "Up until now, we've really had no good way of dispersing that information to the businesses within Clark County."
As part of this new program, the Sheriff?s Department has set up an email address ? [ ] - where citizens who either have information about active cases or information that doesn?t necessarily need to be officially reported can contact them.
"People are hesitant to pick up the phone - maybe it seems to official. I think there will be some people more comfortable just shooting an e-mail out there and notify us (of information)."
Any businesses that are interested in receiving alerts via email from the Clark County Sheriff?s Department should contact Detective Jeff Baumgarten at 715-743-5366.
