Healthy Screen Time Use Presentation Being Held March 3rd in Marshfield

Wednesday, February 26th, 2020 -- 8:39 AM

(Hub City Times) -“Just Look Up!” ??" a Leadership Marshfield initiative that encourages healthy screen time use ??" will be held March 3, 5:45-7:45 p.m.

The group will host Jason Parks, detective internet crimes for Marshfield Police Department, at the 2nd Street Community Center, Drendel Room, 211 E. Second St., Marshfield. Detective Parks is a member of the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce and is a former member of the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Cyber Crimes Taskforce, based out of the Milwaukee Division. Detective Parks has been investigating cybercrimes for the past 10 years, and in that time has received hundreds of hours of training in the areas of computer and cell phone forensics. Adults come learn about trends in online activities that our youth are engaged in. Detective Parks will examine the potential dangers that our children are exposed to when they are active in the cyber world.

Local cases that have been investigated by the police department will be shared to help raise awareness of what our children are viewing and the pressures being placed on them. Detective Parks will also discuss some best practices for helping our children make more responsible decisions when they use their computerized devices. Also, an overview of parental controls and monitoring software will be reviewed. Limited seats are available, so registration is strongly recommended; this event is for adults only. To register, visit http://bit.do/internet_safety or contact Krystal Bowman, Marshfield Area United Way, at 715-384-9992.
