-A Neillsville caught BASE jumping from a communications tower in Menominee back in October was sentenced in Dunn County Court on Monday.Mason Barth of Neillsville became entangled on a guy wire of a cellphone tower after he jumped from the tower illegally. Barth had to call the police in order to be rescued from the wire. After his rescue, he was treated at Mayo Clinic Health System and then promptly arrested for criminal trespass. BASE jumping stands for building, antenna, span and earth, the four common objects from which BASE jumpers launch their descent.
Barth was initially charged with criminal trespass to energy provider property, which would have been a felony. But during a court appearance in December, both the defense and state agreed to dismissing the original charge and providing a new charge. On Monday, Barth pleaded guilty to trespass to land, a forfeiture. He was fined $263.50.
