Tuesday, February 25th, 2020 -- 11:45 AM

-We may be coming on the 3rd month of 2020, but the year has already proven deadly for snowmobilers.

So far, 17 people have died in snowmobile accidents. The majority of the accidents involved riders hitting a fixed object. In six of the deaths, there was no alcohol use, in 7 alcohol had been consumed and 4 cases are still pending. In all but two of the deaths, riders were wearing helmets. 2019 saw 16 people die in snowmobile crashes and there were 19 in 2018.

The 2015/16 riding season was the safest with 9 deaths and the 2014/2015 season had 12. Of the 17 deaths so far in 2020, one of those did occur here in Clark County. On February 9th, a 28-year-old man was killed after he struck a fence while riding across an open field.
