(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Both chambers of the Wisconsin Legislature have now given their approval on a bill that would provide money for farmers to install Rollover Protection Systems on their older tractors. As part of the measure, about $150,000 would be allocated to the Marshfield Clinic's National Farm Medicine Center for the next three years to help fund its popular rebate program that reimburses farmers for some of their expenses in installing ROPS equipment. The NFMC typically covers 70 percent of such installations, which usually amounts to about $2,000. More than half the tractors in Wisconsin do not have this projection, according to the NFMC.
The Wisconsin ROPS Rebate Program was originally launched with philanthropic support provided to Marshfield Clinic through the Auction of Champions Fund a Need program. Gov. Tony Evers is expected to sign the bill into law.
