State Senate Approves DNR Secretary

Thursday, February 20th, 2020 -- 7:42 AM

(WRN) -The State Senate has unanimously approved the appointment of DNR Secretary Preston Cole, but the vote didn't pass without incident.

The State Senate has approved the appointment of D N R Secretary Preston Cole after more than a year, but not without some drama. Senator Tom Tiffany, who has long pushed for expansion of logging and mining in the state, issued a warning to Cole.

"Mr. Cole has some work cut out for him. There are many fine people who work within the Department of Natural Resources, but there are those who take liberties with the law at times."

Tiffany accused DNR staff of breaking the law.

"I hope Secretary Cole is up to the task of making sure that they are accountable to him and to the taxpayers of the state of Wisconsin."

Tiffany accused DNR staff members of working outside the law, and told Cole that he expects him to keep his people in line.

"I wish Secretary Cole best of luck, and I hope he diligent in doing his job with the Department of Natural Resources."

The vote for Cole passed unanimously, and will finally officially take over as head of the Department.
Tiffany will be in the running to take former Congressman Sean Duffy's seat in a special election in April.
