Officer's Report at Neillsville City Council Meeting

-The Neillsville City Council heard the Officer's Report at their meeting last week.Chief of Police Jim Mankowski reported the statistics for January of 2020. The department had 89 cases/incidents, 59 service calls, 26 traffic citations, 53 traffic warnings, 4 crash investigations, 9 ordinance citations, 5 adult arrests, 2 cases referred to the district attorney, 4 juvenile cases, 49 parking citations and 268 business checks. Chief Mankowski stated business checks are a new category and the officers are checking businesses at night and stopping in during the days. Business checks will be increasing and more discretion will be used on traffic stops. He also stated a mission statement and core values have been developed.
He also stated an evidence audit has been done by the Clark County Sherriff’s Department, an equipment inventory has been done, daily logs have been started, he has rode with each officer to get the feel of the department, he is meeting with business owners to hear their complaints and praises as well and he mentioned the various schools he and the officers are attending. One council member asked how businesses will be checked for the new ordinance on “vaping”. Chief Mankowski stated it will be mainly complaint driven with “vaping” being mainly a school issue.
