Decline in Coal Shipments, But Increase in Renewable Energy Components
Thursday, February 13th, 2020 -- 7:37 AM
(WRN) -A steep decline in coal shipments from the Twin Ports of Duluth-Superior was off-set by increases in renewable energy components.Shipments of coal were at their lowest level in more than 30 years. Port officials say that drop was countered by the 306-thousand freight tons of components for producing wind energy shipped during 2019. Coal is projected to produce less than one-fourth of the world’s electricity by 2050.
The U-S Energy Information administration projects power from renewable sources will grow by more than 20 percent during the time period.
