-Parents of Greenwood Middle School students appeared before the Greenwood School Board at their meeting on Monday upset over an incident involving students and prescription medication. At the end of January, a Greenwood Middle School student had been suspended for bringing medication to school and sharing it with other students. According to an email sent to parents in the district, a 7th grade male brought muscle relaxers to school and shared them with another male student. The district later learned that a female student had taken some of the medication as well. When the district was informed about this by students, they immediately detained the student that brought the medication and all three students were evaluated by emergency medical services. Due to their ages, the names of the students weren’t released and middle school students will attend a follow-up presentation about prescription medication abuse and peer pressure.
During the board meeting last night, parents were upset because many of them weren’t informed about what happened. They stated some had received the email, but many of them had not. They were also upset because they stated those that called the school to try and find out what was going had not been called back. The parents present also complained about some alleged bullying that was going on in the district. The board did not respond to any of the items brought up because they were not agenda items.
