RUNAWAY SEMI DRIVER ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL
Thursday, June 2nd, 2005 -- 11:44 AM
A semitrailer driver accused of smashing into police cars during an hourlong chase is ordered to stand trial on four felonies in Marathon County. No date was immediately set for 33-year-old Rob Collins to enter a plea to the charges.
Circuit Judge Patrick Madden ruled prosecutors presented sufficient evidence during a preliminary hearing for Collins to stand trial on two counts of attempted murder and other charges.
According to police, Collins raced away from an attempted traffic stop near Medford last month apparently because he was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for attempted sexual assault of a child. The chase ended outside Marshfield after police used spikes to puncture the truck's tires and then shot into the driver's side of the cab and radiator.
