(WRN) -A Madison Democrat is looking to reintroduce a 15-dollar-an-hour minimum wage law to the Legislature.Representative Melissa Sargent says increasing people's basic income improves all of us.
"We know that when we step forward and each of us, individually, does better, that our state as a whole will do better. And this is a prime example of how it is we can do that."
Sargent says working class families are being forced in parts of the state to take multiple jobs just to survive.
"No one dreams of working more than 40 hours a week and having to rely on government assistance in order to get ahead for them and their families."
Sargent says the bill would give everyone in Wisconsin a fair shake at a good life.
"This is a pragmatic, common sense piece of legislation that has really impacted economies in other states in a positive manner."
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos seemed less than interested when asked about the measure.
"The free market is a better way to do it than having an artificial wage floor which would treat everyone the same, regardless of skills."
He says the bill won't be making to the floor.
